Rounton Coffee Roasters: Uganda, Kalingwe, Natural

Kalingwe is a village just to the west of Kisinga Coffee Station, though it is significantly higher up in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains. The village is at 1900 masl and the farmers of the community live and farm from there up to 2100 masl. Farmers typically each have about 2 acres of land and coffee is their main cash crop.

One of the lead farmers is Biira Christine, who together with her family has about 350 coffee trees throughout her plot of land. Road access is poor and collecting the cherries from Kalingwe by truck has not been possible. However, Agri Evolve has arranged for a team of donkeys to be used in this area, and this is enabling the farmers to concentrate on the coffee and leave the donkeywork of carrying the cherries down the mountain tracks, to the donkeys!
