Getting product details...

From Artisan Roast:

Bold beaned and bold in flavour. Blackcurrant, grapefruit and raspberry flavours combine with a dense, and syrup like molasses sweetness in this fruit forward delicious Kenya.

Mugaya factory is one of seven secondary processing units that form the larger Mutira FCS Society. Over a thousand small holder farmers that supply this factory are spread around the town of Kagomo towards the north of Central Kirinyaga. As is common throughout Kenya, most producers in the co-opera- tive own a few hundred coffee trees and they deliver ripe red cherry from these trees into a central co-operative washing station, like Mugaya, for further processing.

The main flavours in the brew are the berry fruit flavours of blackcurrant and raspberry. We also find molasses, citrus and a little vanilla to add depth and interest through to the finish. It's a very clean coffee with a rich, almost jam like juiciness to it that rolls over the palette. Look for some phosphoric acid too, a classic attribute of Kenyan coffee, that adds intensity and complexity to the lemon citrus and apple like malic acidity. This phosphoric acidity is often very present in coffees from this part of Kenya because the plants uptake naturally occurring phosphorus from the soils which in turn modifies the taste of coffees once brewed.

The roast has been developed to best bring out the blackcurrant fruit note and juiciness of body, which balances the sweetness with a medium intensity acidity. This makes the coffee very versatile and while it sings when brewed as a filter, it works equally well in immersion or pressure brewing methods

When do we roast your coffee?

We roast at least every Monday and Wednesday (roasting days). Our cut off for planning orders for roasting is 2pm on a roasting date. If an order is received after this cut off it will be prioritised on the next roasting day. Most items will be dispatched the next day (Tuesday and Thursday). If we cannot deliver the goods within this time we will tell you immediately and agree on another time for delivery. If we cannot agree on another time, we will offer you a refund. We use a range of different roaster sizes so we can batch roast exactly what we need for that day. This means that no coffee will leave our roastery older than the previous working day.

Delivery Method

We send your coffee by Royal Mail 1st Class post, which aims to deliver within 1 working day. This is not a guarantee but an aim. Royal Mail will not class an item as lost or missing for 15 working days. Please get in touch if you have not received your order within 7 working days of dispatch. For International delivery to Europe we use the Royal Mail International Standard service. This has a delivery aim of 5-10 days. For International delivery to World Zone 1 & 2 countries we use the Royal Mail International Tracked & Signed service. This has a delivery aim of 5-10 days.
