Silver Oak Coffee - Single Origin: Itende JKT, Tanzania Decaf

Itende JKT is owned by the Tanzanian National Youth Service or Jeshi la Kujenga Taifa (JKT) in Swahili. This program is voluntary and is run to provide young people in Tanzania with educational and practical skills centred on agriculture. The Tanzanian Coffee Research Institute donated seedlings and now the area under coffee extends to 200 acres.

Young people from all over the country attend the program, usually extending to six months, and some have gone on to work full time in coffee upon completing their training. Most of the volunteers are from impoverished backgrounds and the training they receive not only develops skills with regard to coffee farming but also other practical and social skills helping prepare them for adulthood.

Monies raised from the sale of coffees are fed back to the program to ensure its longevity and sustainability.

The coffee was decaffeinated in Germany using CO2.
