Consistent and dependable with a nutty, chocolate body with sweet orange and caramel notes. This coffee is ideal for espresso and works very well in milk based drinks. It is also excellent in a filter or Aeropress and gives lots of chocolate notes with a good body.
The Workhorse blend is built around the concept of consistency and reliability. This blend features our relationship coffees produced by hard working farmers around the world and purchased by us in large volumes. This gives us consistency over the course of the year enabling us to provide a reliable and dependable taste profile. From time to time the ingredients will change but unlike our 'Pioneer' option we aim to substitute similar coffees when changing this blend.
Karisimbi co-operative, Rwanda 50% (relationship coffee)
Varietal: Red Bourbon
We first visited Rwanda in 2014 and over the last few years we've developed some very close relationships within the Rwandan coffee community. We have visited Karisimbi washing station several times over the last few years. It is located about 2 hours drive north of Kigali in one of the highest altitude areas of the country, just over 2000masl.
About 300 small hold farmers delivery hand harvest coffee to the washing station where it is processed using a Penagos Eco Pulper. This low water machine removes almost all of the fruit meaning the coffee only needs to be left to ferment for about 6 hours to breakdown any remaining mucilage. After fermentation the coffee is washed and graded in grading channels before it is soaked in clean water for about 4 hrs. The coffee is then laid out to dry on raised beds and hand sorted during the drying phase.
Fazenda Paraiso, Brazil 50%
Varietal: Yellow Bourbon, Mondo Novo, Red Catuai
Process: Pulped Natural
Altitude: 1100-1450 masl
Located in the south Minas Gerais region of Brazil. This coffee is grown at Fazenda Paraiso owned by Guy Carvalho. They grow several varietals and produce both natural and pulped natural with a strong focus on quality and environmental responsibility.
All the ingredients are excellent single origins in their own right and are often available to purchase on their own or as part of this blend.
The blend is subject to change at anytime however we aim to achieve a consistent taste profile.
This coffee works well with all filter brewers and espresso. For filter we recommend a 1 - 15 brew ratio, and for espresso a 1 - 2 brew ratio.
Example: Filter: 17g - 250ml // Espresso: 18g - 36ml

A traditional, lower acidity, coffee from Brazil. Horsham Coffee Roaster have been buying coffee from the Recanto farm since 2015 and we have always been impressed with the quality. The farm is inside an extinct volcano which means it's growing in some of the best soil in Brazil!
