Getting product details...

From Rory at The Coffee Officina:

Chocolate and nougat aroma. Roasted hazelnut with notes of orange. Lively acidity with a smooth finish.

To source this coffee we have been working with Nadine from Third Wave Coffee Source. They are fifth generation coffee growers exporting their own and their friend’s coffees from Guatemala.

This particular coffee was grown at San Martin Jilotepeque, a valley over from Antigua. It is a relatively new region for coffee growing in Guatemala. The area is very dry, however coffee was the first crop ever harvested there, which gives great advantage due to the amounts of nutrients founds in the land. After the coffee has been harvested, it is brought to Finca El Hato, which is Nadine’s family owned wet mill, to be processed.

We chose this Guatemalan because we think it is very well balanced and it is a great example of one of our favourite coffee producing countries.

We also love the work that TWCS are doing at Finca El Hato. They have been helping the community by rebuilding a school which was abandoned on a neighbouring lot. The school has been functioning as a public school for over ten years now and it educates over 400 children. Most of the students are children of coffee workers or pickers at the farm. Due to its success they are building 2 more.
