Getting product details...

Sweet red cherry and milk chocolate with a hint of hazelnut. This is a wonderfully juicy coffee.
Jose Saucedo Mego owns El Solitario, a 1.82 hectare lot in the Cajamarca region of Peru. The coffee is shade grown, with the use of native and fruit trees including Alicaro, Figs, Citrus, Mango and Pico Pico. The farm is very close to the cloud line where the primary forest flourishes, which may be a factor in the high quality coffee that Jose is producing. Due to the small size of the farm he produces only around 35 x 69kg bags of green beans per year. His farm is organic certified and this is largely due to the fact that small hold farmers in Peru have never been able to afford non organic chemicals, pesticides and fertilisers!

Jose is married to Luz and has three children. While the farm is his main focus, he industriously uses his motorbike to run a taxi service to supplement his income. With the help of the cooperative, he is continuing to improve the quality of his coffee.

In a recent coffee competition in 2013, Jose’s coffee was awarded as the best coffee from the North of Peru and he made it into the top five nationally! Well done Jose and we’re chuffed to be working closely with him. Thanks to our friends at DR Wakefield for finding this excellent coffee for us. This is the second year we have purchased our own small exclusive lot from Jose and we hope to continue to do so for many more years.
