Horsham Coffee Roaster: Costa Rica, Carlos Montero Don Eli, Washed

For over three generations the Montero family has been producing coffee in the stunning mountains of Tarrazú, Costa Rica. Sitting at an altitude of 1,800 masl “La Pastora” micro region is rich in volcanic soil and known to offer some of the best quality in the area

Eli, the grandfather, worked throughout his childhood in coffee, and so did his son, Carlos Montero. Today, Carlos and his entire family are deeply involved at Don Eli Coffee farm and micro mill. They have been focusing on producing only speciality grade coffee since 2015 and seperate by farm and process to produce a range of high scoring microlots.

We have chosen a high scoring micro lot harvested from Catuai trees on the San Marcos farm. Only ripe coffee cherry was harvested and then processed using the African style double washed method. The double washed method involves a first fermentation after the fruit is removed followed by a grading process and then a second soak in fresh clean water.

This is a really bright, clean coffee with juicy fruit notes.

Brewing

This coffee works well with all filter brewers and espresso. For filter we recommend a 1 - 16 brew ratio, and for espresso a 1 - 2.2 brew ratio.
