This coffee is incredibly moorish with a nice clean well rounded body, flavours of praline, milk chocolate digestives & subtle lemon.

It is our first purchase from Peru and its been with keen interest that we’ve seen the development and quality of Peruvian coffees improve year on year.

This lot comes to us from producer Nehemias Flores of Nuevo Trujillo and his farm, Finca La Encantada.

It’s a small 2 hectare parcel of which 90% is planted with Costa Rica, Bourbon, Pache, Caturra, along with vegetables, wheat, and fruit trees. Nehemias first acquired this farm in 2011. This specific lot was harvested at peak ripeness, de-pulped, fermented on average for 14-20 hours, then moved to the parabolic dryer for an average period of 5-9 days.

As an origin, Peru has all the conditions necessary to produce world-class coffee: concentrated volumes of coffee growing at and above 1700 masl, a prominence of Typica, Bourbon, and Caturra, and a movement among the producing population, away from subsidence-farming, and into seeing quality coffee production as a viable business.
As Peru is relatively new to the specialty coffee world, a few challenges directly related to this matter still exist, particularly as Peru’s coffee culture isn’t as strong as other major producing countries.

Infrastructure on farms is in need of attention & most farmers dry their coffees on tarps laid out on the ground. As more incentive for the production of coffee with high cup scores are put in place, we hope to see these challenges quickly disappear as Peru moves full-stride into the specialty coffee world.

Roasting and delivery information

We roast 5 days a week on our Diedrich IR-12 & CR-25. We roast and rest our EQ & E1 espressos only to a maximum of 10 days so these coffees will arrive ready to use. All other single origins are roasted to order on the next available roast day & sent out within 24 hours.

We recommend a minimum of 10 days rest past roast day on all our espressos and a minimum of 2-5 days rest on all filter coffees.

TO ENSURE SAME DAY ROASTING, ALL ORDERS MUST BE RECEIVED BY 11am. ANY ORDERS RECEIVED AFTER 11am WILL BE ROASTED THE FOLLOWING ROAST DAY.
