A very special coffee with a limited supply - be quick! Ideal in an Aeropress or filter - tastes of green grapes, tropical fruit & complex acidity.

With so much hype made of the geisha coffees (an ancient Ethiopian descendant varietal that has found most success in central America) we are always a little hesitant when cupping geishas in anticipation of them rarely living up to their quite often ridiculous price tags with some fetching well over $100/lb.

We have cupped through quite a few in the past year, mainly from Panama where the varietal has undoubtedly found most of its fame, but nothing has really stood out quite like this coffee on the cupping table for us. Needless to say it was interesting to note that it was in fact a Colombian geisha that took us all by surprise and perhaps that’s because the Colombians tend to deliver a slightly heavier & sweeter bodied coffee over their Panamanian cousins.

One of our key partners in the green coffee supply chain is Cafe Imports, and this happens to be the second ‘Aces’ lot that we’ve bought from them (remember that natural Kenyan Chania last year?!). The ‘Aces’ collection represents Cafe Imports very finest single origin coffees that reflect the work of some special projects they have in place in several different producer countries.

Finca Las Nubes in Colombia is one such farm and the geisha is one of three varietals that Cafe Imports and Banexport have worked on together with farm owner Camilo where innovation is very much at the fore. The central American geishas typically deliver a super delicate floral & tea-like cup, however this coffee shone out for its intensity with strong green grapes flavours – backed up with lovely tropical fruit characteristics, beautiful complex acidity and a much bigger mouthfeel.

We felt it represented a far more interesting cup and delivered much better value for money so we have acquired just 40 kilos for limited release. Be quick!
