From Horsham Coffee Roaster:

ORGANIC SINGLE ORIGIN COFFEE BEANS FROM PERU

Benchmark is a seasonal selection, specifically chosen by us for its balanced flavour profile and suitability for a wide range of brewing methods.

Established in 1999, Cenfrocafe is a co-operative consisting of 11 associations with 2,400 members, all with an average farm size of 4-10 hectares. Many of the zones are buffer areas with the Tabacones Biosphere reserve which borders with Ecuador, with the area only having been developed in the last 30 years.

The organic and sustainable practices of the co-op and its growers are a key part of its success. The farmers use organic compost and Guano de Isla as well as other organic fertilizers. This is bird guano mined from nearby costal island. It is strong organic fertilizer which adds micro nutrients and promotes tree health. Pruning is methodical and farmers avoid overproduction. In 2013, when rust was ravaging other parts of Peru, this area resisted due to these careful pruning practices and subsequent tree health.

Cenfrocafe built its operations around precise quality control in its lot separation and cupping practices. By maintaining the discipline and the art of cupping over the years, their cuppers were among the first to get Q certified in Peru. Coffee is carefully dried in parabolic driers due to wet conditions during picking season which results in impressive long term stability of these coffees; they retain their quality for as long as 11 months after harvest due to a lack of aldehydes from incomplete or inconsistent drying. Farmers are paid premiums for each level of quality they achieve. The stability of the membership of this co-op even in volatile markets is a testament of their service to the growers.

This organic coffee, consisting of varietals Typica and Caturra is fully washed and sun dried and certified Fairtrade Organic. In the cup you can expect notes of Cocoa, tropical fruits and raisin.
