Horsham Coffee Roaster

Getting roaster details...

As all of the best things often do, a trip abroad, in this case to Toronto, sparked a burgeoning new interest for husband and wife team Bradley and Amelia - in Speciality coffee. Upon their return home in 2012 they started experimenting with coffee roasting, initially using a popcorn maker and then moving on to a 1kg roaster in their garage and very successfully selling the coffee thus produced at a regular food market in their beautiful home town of Horsham, Sussex.

From the beginning, ethical considerations have been a top priority for the Roasters and they hold themselves to high standards. They are the proud purveyor of what they call: ‘Relationship Coffee’ which encompasses more than just superficially visiting farmers and washing stations. Great importance is placed on having a direct relationship and working closely with producers to build sustainable, mutually beneficial relationships, in their case particularly with a Rwandan Coffee Cooperative.

Although the market stall is no more, their roastery now proudly hosts a Loring S35 Kestrel smart roaster (helped to reduce their CO2 emissions by 60%) and their team continues to grow. Horsham are constantly looking for exciting new coffees to add to their range - with a focus on single origins.

In July 2019, Horsham Coffee Roaster became the first UK roaster to join transparency.coffee. All the coffee businesses who have signed up have to be willing to openly declare their core working relationships and direct trade. This is something they've been doing for 5 years anyway! You can read Horsham Coffee Roasters' transparency report on their website.
