From Artisan Roast:

A bold, classic representation of Kenyan coffee. Honeydew melon sweetness, a dense syrupy mouthfeel and a sparkling, refined acidity - delicious!

Central Kenya is the heartland of some of the world’s most recognisable coffee. The regions distinct red soil hills roll from altitudes of 1400 – 2000m asl bordered on one side by Mount Kenya and the Abederes national park on the other. Coffee production is usually structured with washing stations (called factories) come under the umbrella of a larger FSC (farmers co-operative society). In the case of Kii, it is one of three factories of the larger Rung’eto FCS Society in Kirinyaga and Embu counties.

While terroir will give you a chance of quality, management of ongoing coffee quality will give consistency in quality, and Kii consistently produces some of the most regarded coffee in Kenya. The 1200 members will typically own a few hundred coffee trees and they deliver ripe red cherry from these trees into a central co-operative washing station for further processing. Ensuring this quality is consistent is the foundation on which this delicious coffee is built.

We have roasted this coffee light to preserve the intense citric acidity. Flavours are many - for us the stand out ones are a green tea, touch of toffee and syrupy melon finish.
