From Artisan Roast:

A vibrant, floral washed Yirgacheffe, with notes of zesty bergamot and dried apriot. This refined washed-process Ethiopoan coffee represents the lighter, brighter side of this classic Ethiopian coffee district.

Kebel Aricha is a small district that lies to the east of Yirga Chefe town, the world-famous coffee origin in the southern Ethiopian highlands. Six hundred families, some of them growing coffee at dizzying heights of over 2100 metres above sea level in places, supply ripe red cherry to the local washing station for pulping and processing. After fermenting, channelling and soaking over a period of three days the coffee is dried on raised beds as with almost all coffee in the region. This traditional processing serves the coffee very well and at Artisan Roast we feel this coffee represents the exceptional quality produced in this region.

This coffee from Aricha is a classic grade 1 Yirgacheffe - the aroma is dominated by classic Yirgacheffe coffee characteristics of jasmine, apricot and bergamot. The coffees more to the north of Yirgacheffe town often have a more complex and grape like acidity prominent in their profile compared to the the neighbouring washing stations to the south. This is represented well in this coffee which has an effervescent acidity which lasts long after the first sip.

We've roasted this coffee with filter brewing in mind and the bright perfumed and floral notes are more prominent with this brew method. The aeropress brings out more of the dried apricot like characteristics and the milk chocolate underlying some of the brighter characteristics are more present
