From Clifton Coffee Roasters:

We’re proud to be in our second year of partnership with Shwe Taung Thu, a group of smallholder farmers from the Ywangan area of Southern Shan State, in the eastern part of Myanmar.

Founded in 2018 through a development project set up by the USAID, Shwe Taung Thu focuses on providing leadership, finance, technical assistance and market linkages for its members to bring fairer trade conditions for its coffees. Working closely with the local community, the group has also helped promote coffee along with other crops such as soy, watermelon and ginger as a sustainable alternative to opium production as well as other riskier livelihoods such as mining.

Pha Yar Gyi Kone, named after the village where the coffee is grown, is managed by a core group of around 25 members, who have donated a percentage of their profits from last season’s crop to a local school to support community education.

This exceptionally clean and bright naturally processed coffee reflects the community’s meticulous attention to detail and dedication to producing the best quality coffee possible.
