From Artisan Roast:

Maragogype is the original cultivar in a group of arabicas sharing specific gene traits that make them immediately recognisable due to their beans massive size. Yields for farmers are typically lower with these plants than other cultivars so it's an uncommon variety to be found globally.

For roasters too, the distinctive size creates challenges and the need for tender care and coaxing in the coffee roaster to bring out flavour. The result is worth the extra time, and effort because Maragogype delivers sweet, subtle, refined coffees to take time over.

This Maragogype comes from El Poste, a medium sized farm in Dipilto, Nicaragua. This region, where high forested hills at Nicaragua's border with Honduras provide shade cover for coffee, is one pocket of the coffee growing world that still grows these large beans.

We've roasted the coffee lighter to focus on the classic Dipilto cup profile of caramels, citrus and white fruits. Sweet toffee like flavours work in harmony with notes of blanched almond, white grape and orange citrus. These lead onto further flavours of jasmine and milk chocolate and are supported by a medium intensity and effervescent acidity. For drinking, we recommend brewing El Poste as a filter or immersion brew to enjoy the elegance and subtleties of this delicious Maragogype.
